Archive your expired stories and highlight profiles in Instagram’s new updates
Who doesn’t love Instagram? Last week saw the announcement of some major new changes that will see the Facebook owned app, raise its game and keep us all enthralled in the platform, if we weren’t already engaging enough.
For brands and users alike, this is great news and in a nutshell, it allows for stories to be automatically archived rather than lasting for 24 hours – as well as highlight profiles, creating a show-reel of your best stories, images and boomerangs.
Previously, Stories on Instagram had a feature which the platform had introduced about a year ago. This meant Stories would disappear after 24 hours. But with the new feature, Stories will be automatically saved to archive when they expire.
Copying Snapchat’s Memories, now all the Stories will now be automatically saved into a private Stories Archive so users can easily access them and build highlights for their profiles.
Your Archive is for your eyes only, so your followers won’t see images and videos you don’t choose to make public again.
Simply, Instagram Stories that never expire.
This new feature will allow you to add and showcase your best Stories from your profile. A show-reel of sorts that’s let you or your brand, show a more 3 dimensional side to you.
You can choose the Stories you want to include in your Highlight from previous posts, select a cover for the Highlight, and give it a name. The Highlight will show up on your profile as a circle and other users can tap to view.
You can add as many Highlights as you want, and they’ll stay there till the end of time or until you change or remove it.
These two changes are quite a boost for both individuals and brands. They show where Instagram is going in capturing users to create its own walled garden in the Facebook ecosystem and lure users from other social channels like snapchat and twitter, whilst enhancing its own business model without creating overkill and pushing ads.
